Hello Future Nursing students,

Yay!! You made it in to Nursing School! This is the most exciting day of your life. Enjoy it and celebrate!!! In 2014, I decided to go back to school to become a nurse. I had four children at the time ages from 2 years of age to 9. I decided to quit my job and applied at the local hospital to become a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA). It was easy for me to reestablish my CNA license since I had previously had my license in 2006.

Road to Practical Nursing School

So at the beginning of 2015, I started taking prerequisite’s for nursing school. For me there were only a few classes I needed since I had some prior college classes. So while working as CNA at the local hospital I took a few classes each semester at Manhattan Area Technical College. By the beginning of 2016 I was ready to apply to Practical Nursing school. In the spring of 2016, I received my acceptance letter!!!! I was overjoyed and excited for the new journey I was going to encounter. In August of 2016, I started classes for Practical Nursing (PN) school at Manhattan Area Technical College in Manhattan, KS.

First Day of Nursing School

It was a hot summer day in Kansas when I started my first day of PN school. I arrived early and found my assigned seat on the front row at the far right hand side of the classroom. When I found my seat I was nervous and upset because no one I was near me in my class of approximately 40 students that I knew. My first class was started on time and went over the rules and then we started in on our first unit.

Note Taking Tips

The first time taking notes was fast paced and I felt like a sinking ship. I was anxiously thinking how am I going to be able to keep up? I was struggling to keep up typing each and every word my instructors said. Remember these are all normal feelings. Find your own abbreviations or short hand and after class go back and read through your notes and re-type them up. This will help you remember the material so you can succeed.
